What to consider when choosing an Aesthetic Clinic
The world of aesthetics is very popular and populated and as such, there are many providers who
may not be as qualified or experienced as you may think. At Glamedix we want to make sure when it
comes to your skin treatment clinic all of your questions and concerns are addressed.
The first thing you should check when consideringa clinic is the staff. Starting from the top who is
the medical director. In Ontario you must have either a medical doctor or nurse practitioner
overseeing your clinic to perform any injectables. This information should be readily available and
lets you see the standard of care you will be receiving is elevated. This is especially important if
you are thinking of a more aggressive treatment that may have downtime and potential complications.
Invasive skin treatments such as Morpheus8, Filler, Botox, and even some chemical peels all have
risks associatedwith them. These risks could lead to the need for antibiotics or medicated creams
which require a prescription. And although a medical director doesn
’t have to be on-site, knowing
that they are ready and available for any possible complications that could arise provides added
peace of mind. Also ask about the experience and qualifications ofthe nurses and medical
aestheticians who are performingyour treatments.
Many clinics offer complimentary consultations as a stand-alone service. This is a great way to
meet with the staff and view the clinic, and can be especially helpful if you are unsure of what you
are looking for. Do arrive with lots of questions and pay attention to whether thestaffis able to
answer them. At Glamedix we encourage consultations to make sure you feel comfortable with your
potential treatment provider and confident in booking a treatment. This consultation should never be
focused on selling, and you should notfeel pressured. Be mindful of your
‘
gutfeeling
’ toward the
staff and clinic- how comfortable you are is very important when you are placingyour trust in
someone. Be wary of any clinic that skims over possible side effects, complications, downtime, and
cost of services. You want to be as informed as possible and make sure you understand the risks
and benefits of each treatment. In return, you can develop a comprehensive plan for your skin with
the nurse or medical aesthetician. And I say WITHthem because it’
s your plan and it should make
you feel comfortable. A good consultation will always give you the ideal option and then allow you to
tailor your comfort level and budget
Ask to see before and after pictures so you can determine what your skin care treatment will
involve andwhat the resulted outcome is. Most clinics will have an Instagram feed, Facebook page
or a website showcasingtheir work. Take some time to review the pictures and make sure you like
what you see. If you are looking for a natural lip enhancement and all you see are giant duck lips,
that might be an indication you may end up like that too. You want to see a variety oflooks, including
the one you may be interested in.
Lastly, go online and read reviews. Ask for referrals from friends. Nothing beats a personal
recommendation
